Electrolysis FAQs
Questions are normal.
Electrolysis is a process, and most clients have questions before their first appointment. Here, you’ll find straightforward answers about treatment, timing, hair growth, aftercare, and what to expect.
-
Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved technique for true permanent hair removal. An ultra-fine, sterile probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle, without puncturing the skin, delivering a micro-current of localized heat or chemical energy to destroy the follicle's growth center (the papilla).
-
Unlike temporary methods (waxing, shaving, threading) that only remove hair shafts, or laser which only reduces hair growth, electrolysis physically destroys the blood supply and germative cells of the follicle. Once a follicle is fully treated, it can never grow another hair.
-
Electrolysis works for everyone. Because electrolysis targets the follicle directly rather than relying on pigment/melanin contrast, it is safe and effective for every skin tone, all skin types, and all hair colors. It is also safe over tattooed skin where lasers cannot go.
-
Virtually any area of the body except inside the inner ear and nose:
Face: Chin, upper lip, jawline, sideburns, eyebrows, cheeks.
Body: Underarms, bikini line/Brazilian, abdomen, breasts/areola, back, hands/feet, neck.
-
Sanitization: Cleanse and prep the target zone with hospital-grade antiseptic.
Insertion & Current: Precise insertion into individual follicles, followed by a brief sensation of localized warmth.
Tweezer Removal: The treated hair slides out effortessly without pulling or resistance.
Post-Care: Soothing cream to calm the skin before you walk out the door.
-
Hair grows in three distinct cycles: Anagen (active growth), Catagen (transition), and Telogen (resting). Electrolysis is most effective when hair is in the active Anagen phase, attached to the root. Because follicles cycle through growth phases at different times, returning for consistent sessions catches every follicle in its active state.
-
Most clients describe it as a quick, localized warm sting or tingling sensation lasting only a fraction of a second per hair. Sensation varies by individual tolerance and area treated. We prioritize your comfort and can recommend over-the-counter topical numbing creams if desired.scription
-
Hair only needs to be 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch long (about the thickness of a credit card, or 2–4 days of growth after shaving). We just need enough hair visible above the skin surface for tweezers to grasp and gently lift the hair out.
-
Yes! Shaving is completely fine between sessions because it leaves the root structure intact. However, you must stop plucking, waxing, threading, or tweezing, as pulling hair from the root resets the growth cycle and prevents us from treating the active follicle.
-
Absolutely. Electrolysis is the gold standard for managing hirsutism caused by PCOS, thyroid conditions, or hormonal shifts. While underlying hormones may attempt to trigger new dormant follicles over time, electrolysis permanently destroys every active follicle we treat, giving you long-term control over facial and body hair.
-
Yes, 100%. Unlike laser hair removal—which requires dark melanin pigment to absorb light energy—electrolysis uses micro-current energy directed straight into the follicle. It is completely effective on white, gray, blonde, red, and fine vellus (peach fuzz) hair.
-
Total completion time depends on the size of the area, hair density, previous hair removal history (plucking/waxing), and individual hormone levels. Most clients achieve full clearance within 8 to 18 months of consistent, routine sessions.
-
We offer flexible scheduling in 5-minute increments from 15 to 60 minutes so your sessions fit both your goals and your schedule!
15–25 Minutes: Ideal for quick touch-ups, spot treatment, or keeping small areas silky smooth between full cycles.
30–40 Minutes: Perfect for routine maintenance on common areas like the lip, chin, or sideburns.
45–60 Minutes: Recommended if you are starting a new area or want to cover maximum ground in a single visit.
-
For 24–48 hours after your session:
Keep the area clean and avoid touching treated skin.
Apply pure aloe vera gel or witch hazel to calm mild redness or swelling.
Avoid direct sun exposure, hot tubs, heavy workouts/sweating, makeup, and harsh skincare acids (retinols, AHAs).
